  1. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

This book is probably one of the most hyped books of all times and with good reason. It is an astonishingly well-researched mystery-thriller that combines fact and fiction. Robert Langdon’s quest for Jesus Christ bloodline will keep you on your toes. This book made me a fan of the author and is one of the reasons I am a reader now!
2. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Are you a fan of the BBC Sherlock series and can’t get enough of Mr. Holmes? Does the detective in you hunt for mysteries? Read more of his adventures. This book contains 12 adventures of Sherlock and Watson, some of which have been modernized and adapted in the BBC series.

3. The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

I read this book recently and just cannot stop gushing it. No matter what age you are, this book deserves some love from you! It is absolutely stunning with gorgeous sketches throughout the book! Not only that, it has a gripping plot. adorable characters, historical references! Do I need to say more or are you already convinced? If not.. read my review!

4. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Every book list is incomplete without classics.. so here is my first pick! A master-piece of American Literature, it won the many awards and accolades and has even been translated into over 40 languages. It deals with the very sensitive and glaring topic of racism and how a young kid is unable to make any sense of it. Seen from her untarnished perspective, it is unfathomable what being Black could do to a person as she visits the courtroom for a trial that her father is a lawyer in. The brilliance of the novel is in it’s simplicity.

5. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

How can I talk about classics and favorites and not mention this book?Β ‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.’ And so when Mr. Bingley comes to the new estate with his sisters and friend Mr. Darcy, Mrs. Bennett claims the opportunity to get her daughters married. Set in the Victorian Era, this book gives you all the feels! Love transcends all pride and prejudices..

6. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

The most popular book by the uncrowned King of Romance aka Nicholas Sparks. If you like romance and mushy movies and that will end up making you a cry-baby by the end of it.. this is your go-to book! Don;t even think twice.. you will love it! How a simple home-coming dance can change lives.. yes.. sounds like a fairy tale.. albeit a sad one.

7. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Is there anybody on the planet who does not know about this book? πŸ˜› If you are hearing it for the first time.. great! Read it before the Hindi remake release and tarnishes the book forever! *cries* It is a love-story between two cancer patients who are battling their lives but not counting their days.. instead making the full use of it. This heart-breaking tale will make you re-think your own life.

8. What Your Soul Already Knows by Dr. Salma Farook

Speaking of books which make you think and contemplate, this one is a wonder! Written in an extremely placid tone, it gives and overview of stuff that is already known to us but which we forget in our daily hustle and bustle! Read the full review here! It is a non-fiction book but very short, so it is ideal for beginners who are not to sure about picking up fiction!

9.Β The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk by Sudha Murty

This one is for the short story lovers.. If you cannot concentrate on long stories and prefer reading in bite-sized chunks, you can give this a go. Written by Sudha Murty, this book chronicles real life stories from her life.. people she has met, experiences she has garnered over the years. I recommend reading this in one story a day format and take time to think over and digest each story. Read my full review!

10. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

It is a gut-wrenching story set in Afghanistan where our greatest nightmares are an everyday reality. Spanning about thirty years it follows two women (from different generations).. their lives, their struggles. The disruption of society in the face of the Taliban and post-Taliban Era is intolerably painful. You need to read this book.. if only to know that you are blessed to be living in the part of the world where war is not your life!

Let me know if you are going to read any of these.. and how you like them!

Like, Share and Subscribe for more recommendations and goodness!
